Britney Spears Music Used to Ward Off Somali Pirates – Reports Addressed (watch video)
Britney Spear’s songs are now being used to scare off pirates at the sea. Chart-toppers such as ” Baby one more time” and “Oops I did it again” are the most effective ones against pirates. Some believe that the pirates can’t stand western music and Britney Spear’s songs are working great to scare the pirates off the coast of Africa
Songs of US singer have been chosen by a maritime security team that accompanies tankers in pirate-infested areas. The US star’s hits are blasted at the approaching Somali raiders using speakers that are aimed solely at the pirates so it does not disturb the ship’s crew.
Now, LRAD is programmable, the LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) can play essentially any audio from sirens to high-pitched sounds to warning messages.
So, as is the case with the security team reportedly warding off Somali pirates by use of Britney Spears music: I don’t doubt it. Technically I’m sure it IS possible. But I believe that, if this really did happen, the reason for the pirates retreat was probably because the song would have been played at a volume of about 160 dBs, well beyond the human bodies pain threshold, and not due to their hatred for American pop culture.
